A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Green began his professional journey as an infantry officer before pursuing medical training at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. He served with distinction as a flight surgeon, completing deployments in both the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. During his military service, Green played a notable role in Operation Red Dawn, the mission that resulted in the capture of Saddam Hussein, an experience he later documented in a book detailing his wartime experiences.

After retiring from military service in 2006, Green transitioned to the private sector, becoming CEO of a hospital emergency department staffing company.
