West Point Graduate and Combat Surgeon: The Remarkable Journey of Mark Green
Mark Edward Green is a dedicated public servant, combat veteran, and physician who has distinguished himself through military service, medical expertise, and principled conservative leadership. Born on November 8, 1964, Green exemplifies a commitment to serving his community and country through multiple distinguished career paths.
A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Green began his professional journey as an infantry officer before pursuing medical training at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. He served with distinction as a flight surgeon, completing deployments in both the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. During his military service, Green played a notable role in Operation Red Dawn, the mission that resulted in the capture of Saddam Hussein, an experience he later documented in a book detailing his wartime experiences.
After retiring from military service in 2006, Green transitioned to the private sector, becoming CEO of a hospital emergency department staffing company. His entrepreneurial success and medical background provided a solid foundation for his entry into public service. In 2012, he was elected to the Tennessee Senate, representing the 22nd district and quickly establishing himself as a principled conservative legislator. Though initially nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as Secretary of the Army in 2017, he withdrew from consideration following controversy surrounding previous statements.
Green's congressional career began in 2018 when he was elected to represent Tennessee's 7th congressional district, succeeding Marsha Blackburn. He was re-elected in 2020 and 2022, solidifying his position as a prominent Republican representative. During his tenure, he served on several important committees and in 2023 chaired the Committee on Homeland Security, where he focused on national security and border protection issues. His conservative credentials and commitment to limited government made him a respected voice within the Republican Party.
Throughout his political career, Mark Green has remained dedicated to serving his constituents and advancing conservative principles. A physician, veteran, businessman, and lawmaker, he has demonstrated a remarkable ability to contribute to public service across multiple domains. In June 2025, Green announced his resignation from Congress to pursue opportunities in the private sector, concluding a distinguished period of public service that reflected his ongoing commitment to leadership and community involvement.
